Visit us for the latest on our Books (available on Kindle & Nook) and Butler, the perpetual puppy and his little brother Mooshu (pictured above).
We’re two days away from getting Mooshu (he’s being delivered) and everyone is so excited. I can’t help being a little nervous. Its a long trip and when we brought Butler home from Virginia, he was car sick which made a six hour drive run about ten hours so we could stop and let him unwind. It’s not the first time we’ve encountered car sickness, and three of the five children have experienced it, so I’m a little stressed. On the plus side, Butler has acclimated to being a backseat driver, and loves his car trips, since we go fun places like hiking trails. He has also doubled in size since we got him, so that may also have something to do with it.
Butler knows something is up from all the energy we are putting off as we prepare for our new family member. Since this little guy is only 5 months old and new to our home, he won’t really know anything yet, so we’ve got a lot of work to do!
Butler has learned over the years what is okay to chew and where his treats are. We’ve trained him not to grab food, pills, or anything else inadvertently dropped on the floor. We have also trained him so we can take away his dish mid meal without so much as a snarl, it helps that we return it with a special treat. Mooshu will have to learn all that and more to keep him safe.
Since we have a big family, we always baby proof everything, but babies don’t jump like doggies do, lol. It means upping our game for the new addition. After safety and house training is done we can move into fun stuff like the circus dog tricks our Butler does.
I have heard that having a second dog is less work because they take cues from the older dog, but we’ve only ever had one doggie at a time so… fingers crossed. I know Butler will need lots of attention so he isn’t jealous, and with children I’ve made the big brother or sister the spotlight. I have extra small soft treats (training treats) on hand for Butler and his new sibling, and I’ll tell you which they like best.
